Allstate earns U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award

Junior Achievement USA® (JA) has honored Allstate with a 2018-2019 U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award. To celebrate this honor, we are featuring one of very own Allstaters, who has been volunteering with Junior Achievement of Chicago for the past seven years!

Anthony joined Allstate in July 2018 and is a Human Resources Sourcing Analyst for the Midwest Region in the Northbrook, IL office. Anthony grew up near Allstate’s headquarters and comes from a very tight knit family of second-generation immigrants, who instilled the values of togetherness and caring for others. Anthony credits his dedication for giving back to his community to his upbringing.

During his adolescence, Anthony was fortunate to partake in JA programming through his school. The experience stuck with him into adulthood, and he explained that, “JA was always a part of me and who I was.” So, when his college professor encouraged his class to get involved in community service, exploring opportunities with Junior Achievement of Chicago was an easy next step.

Thank you note from students who participated in the Junior Achievement program led by Anthony.

At first, Anthony started volunteering with a second-grade classroom teaching youth the value of hard work, the concept of saving and the basics of career development. Upon joining Allstate, Roger Odle, a field senior vice president, who is on the Board for Junior Achievement

encouraged employees to engage with the organization in Anthony’s office. Anthony quickly saw the synergy between his two worlds and was motivated to engage his colleagues in his passion for giving back.

Over the past seven years volunteering with JA, Anthony has advanced his skills to quarterly service with an eighth-grade classroom; teaching students how to establish their personal brand, work with others, manage a paycheck and develop interview skills. He also participates in Career Days through JA where he explains his own career development and what led him to Allstate. He walks the youth through a skills assessment and helps them identify their career interests and aspirations. As one of the younger participants in the Career Day, Anthony finds that the youth can relate to his experiences and can better see how they could develop their own careers like Anthony has.

At the start of the new year, Anthony was recognized with a Helping Hands® Award for his passion for giving back. Each Helping Hands® Award winner may choose a qualifying nonprofit to receive a $2,500 grant from Allstate Insurance Company. Anthony chose to recognize his long-standing volunteerism by selecting Junior Achievement of Chicago to receive this grant.

April is Allstate’s designated Bring Out the Good month and this award is a perfect launch pad as the whole company prepares to devote more hours to giving back. The recipients will be recognized at an awards ceremony as part of the JA Volunteer Summit on March 17, 2020 in New York, NY.
