Civic 50 Award

Allstate recognized as one of the 50 most community-minded companies in the U.S.

Allstate Insurance Company was named an honoree of The Civic 50 by Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. The award recognizes Allstate as one of the most community-minded companies in the United States.

 “Allstaters care. The Civic 50 honor is a testament to the incredible passion our agency force and employees have for giving back in communities across America,” said Vicky Dinges, Allstate’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility. “Day in and day out, our people are making a difference. They’re helping youth learn critical life skills like persistence and confidence. They’re working tirelessly to end domestic violence. And they’re volunteering wherever and whenever they see a need. We care deeply about being a force for good in our customers’ lives.” 

 The Allstate Foundation, Allstate, its employees and agency force support a wide range of causes, with a focus on two social impact areas: youth empowerment and financial empowerment for domestic violence survivors. In 2017, Allstate enabled young leaders to donate more than 3.5 million service hours and raise $5.3 million for charitable causes through Allstate Foundation Good Starts Young-sponsored programs. In addition, Allstate Foundation Purple Purse helped 370,000 domestic violence survivors break free from abuse.

 The Civic 50 showcases how companies can use their time, skills and other resources to improve the communities where they do business. The honorees are public and private companies with U.S. operations and revenues of $1 billion or more, and are selected based on four dimensions of their U.S. community engagement program: investment, integration, institutionalization and impact.

Allstate Foundation Purple Purse

Ending Domestic Violence Through Financial Empowerment

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and at Allstate, that does not go unnoticed. In fact, it turns the spotlight on one of the causes The Allstate Foundation advocates for all year and coincides with the organization’s annual Purple Purse Challenge dedicated to raising funds to provide life-changing services for domestic violence survivors.

The Allstate Foundation, an independent charitable organization made possible by subsidiaries of Allstate, committed to putting the company’s financial expertise to work to help end domestic violence and financial abuse back in 2005. That was the start of the Purple Purse program which is focused on ending domestic violence by addressing the financial abuse trapping 99% of victims in homes that feel more like prisons. In the past 12 years, the Foundation has served more than 1 million domestic violence survivors, guiding them to lead safer and financially secure lives.

Ellen, a senior manager who works specifically on Purple Purse, has seen the impact of the company’s involvement. When she started on the Purple Purse team, she admitted to not knowing a whole lot about the issue. What she has learned the most though, is that it’s happening everywhere. “It’s not always ‘over there’,” she says, “it’s happening to people we know. And, this isn’t just a ‘women’s issue,’ it’s a societal issue. As I’ve come to understand how pervasive domestic violence is, it’s obvious we can’t just ignore it. I’m lucky to be in the role I’m in because I can have an impact and continue encouraging public education and awareness around the issue.” Ellen feels proud of the work she’s doing, knowing that every day, she contributes to something so important.
