Software Engineer (Managing & Lead Engineers) (Hybrid)

Your role in the team
The Managing Engineer architects and designs their digital products using modern tools, technologies, frameworks, and systems. They drive an engineering approach to the full software lifecycle from development to production and operation. They own and manage their application in production and are accountable for the success of their digital products measured through relevant KPIs.
In addition to the responsibilities of the ‘Managing Engineer’ the ‘Lead Engineer plans, directs, designs, and executes activities and manages products that are of a complex and critical nature. The ‘Lead Engineer coaches, leads, mentors, motivates, sets expectations and evaluates across their suite of digital products. They support and advise the engineering team on policies and procedures, risks, issues, problem resolution, sourcing decisions, budget and priorities.
The ‘Lead Engineer’ will lead through example to demonstrate best practice and adoption of key technologies to drive quality and delivery of Digital Products across their domain. Engineering excellence is at the heart of all they do as well as advocating and driving outcome-based iterative delivery. They take a holistic systems view and use their impact and influence to shape the backlog, not just of their own digital products teams but of partners across the organization.
Key Responsibilities (Managing Engineer)

Leads and participates in daily site, cross-site, and product team standups

Participate in inceptions and iteration planning meetings, infusing backlogs with technical input working in close partnership with the product manager

Coaches the team and leads daily practices of using paired programming and test-driven development in to writing software and building products

Serves as an expert on one or more business domains and is a distinguished advocate of multiple technology stacks and sharing that knowledge across organizations

Partners in with product managers, other peers and key stakeholders to drive collaboration and strategy alignment across product portfolios (cross-product) in partnership with product managers, other peers and key stakeholders

Leads and participates in retrospectives; demonstrating and encouraging each participant to provide feedback with empathy

Provides support for software products in user environments

Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices delivering Engineering Excellence
Key Responsibilities (Lead Engineer)

Participate in product scoping, discovery, and framing, and inceptions providing technical input, and help ensuring that s translate user features requirements are translated into system design

Leads collaboration and strategy alignment across product portfolios (cross-product) in partnership with Digital Product Manager (product DPM) Leads managers, other peers and key stakeholders. The Lead Engineer ensures that all teams are aligned and committed to the Digital Product model and the delivery of value to the business

Leads the effort of shaping the architecture and design of the product demonstrating Engineering Excellence

Establishes continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment pipelines and practices

Serves as the anchor of for the team and practices technical leadership; helping guide the team in choosing the right technology, solving technical problems, and resolving any technical conflicts within the team

Maintains an active interest in developing technologies and how they can deliver value for Allstate and its family of companies
