How Allstate Supports Employees’ Well-being
Now more than ever, Allstate is committed to supporting employee well-being. In 2021, the company made a permanent shift to a largely remote workforce, based on employee feedback. With many of its people now working from home, Allstate has expanded its well-being programs via virtual channels to help employees improve their physical and mental health.
Here are some of the well-being benefits available to Allstaters, regardless of work location.
Virgin Pulse: Digital tools to establish and track good habits
Allstate partners with Virgin Pulse to provide digital well-being programs free to employees. These include:
- Self-paced microlearning sessions. Sessions backed by neuroscience and positive psychology include Mindfulness 101, Yoga 101 and Emotional Intelligence 101.
- Wellness incentives. Employees can track habits and complete well-being activities to earn points in Virgin Pulse. The company pays employees wellness incentives up to $200, based on the number of points earned.
Virtual meditation and yoga
Allstate offers employee-led virtual meditation and yoga sessions to all employees. Every Tuesday and Thursday, 30-minute guided meditation sessions offer the opportunity to de-stress and re-center. On Mondays and Wednesdays, virtual yoga adds movement to the day and encourages mindfulness.
Company-wide 5K and step challenges
Each fall, Allstate’s well–being team puts on the Good Life Sprint & Stride®. The event was previously a 5K, in-person race held during the workday for employees. Now, it’s gone virtual, with registration and tracking through Virgin Pulse. Employees are encouraged to take 6,500 steps (roughly equivalent to a 5K) on the day of the event.
In addition to the Sprint & Stride, employees can participate in company-organized virtual step challenges throughout the year and set up their own team challenges through Virgin Pulse.
Habits of Wellbeing self-care discussions
In 2021, Allstate launched the weekly series HOW to Thrive: Habits of Wellbeing from A to Z. The 25-minute video calls each Friday focus on the ABCDs of self-care. Interactive discussions are facilitated by members of Allstate’s well-being team. Topics have included empathy, gratitude, humor and more.
Energy for Life wellness workshop
Energy for Life (EFL) is a virtual wellness workshop that helps Allstaters articulate and pursue their individual purpose and embrace new challenges. EFL is based on more than 30 years of research by the Human Performance Institute. More than 39,000 Allstate employees have completed Energy for Life since 2010.
Telehealth services and virtual counseling
When it comes to getting professional help for physical and mental health, employees have a few virtual options.
Allstate’s health insurance plans include coverage for telehealth services, so a medical question or a simple doctor visit can be taken care of from the comfort of home.
Employees also have access to the Allstate LifeWorks Employee Assistance Program (EAP). This program offers five free counseling sessions with a behavioral health professional each year, which can be conducted virtually. To hear about one employee’s experience with EAP, listen to Sara’s story.
